(To the tune of “Lost in the Stars,” from the Broadway Show of the same name, by Kurt Weil and Maxwell Anderson (1949).)
So, they’ve claimed Tax Reforming is all for the good.
But they’ve held not one hearing as reformers would.
And they’ve stole for the rich unlike ole’ Robin Hood.
All in the name of Reform.
Trump had wanted a tax bill to show he can lead
But we wanted some wisdom, the country’s in need.
And a tax cut in wartime is foolish indeed.
Sold in the name of Reform.
Now Tax Reforming should simplify,
Not complicate life bye and bye.
That’s why this Act is a Tax Reform lie
That will bring on a tax planning storm.
Tax lawyers will study and riddle this law;
Find every loophole to poke and to claw,
As the wealthy gain more wealth than they ever saw
Till voters awaken with anger so raw
Saying, “No more rank greed as the norm.”
Then there’ll be true Tax Reform,
Not lies in the name of Reform.
