Goldburn Maynard

Goldburn P. Maynard Jr. is an Assistant Professor of Business Law and Ethics at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. He previously served as an Associate Professor of Law at the University of Louisville. Before his career in academia, Professor Maynard was an estate tax attorney at the Internal Revenue Service and a tax associate at Skadden. Professor Maynard’s research focuses on issues of wealth redistribution, inequality, and tax policy.

Jorge M. Obén

Jorge M. Obén is an attorney in the IRS Office of Chief Counsel (International), currently on detail to the Committee on Ways and Means in Washington, D.C. Previously, he worked at Deloitte Tax LLP, PwC, and a law firm in Puerto Rico, where he advised U.S. and foreign-based multinationals on cross-border tax matters. Jorge earned accounting and law degrees from the University of Puerto and an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center. He is also a certified public accountant.

Sonia Shaikh is an attorney in the Washington, D.C. office of Miles & Stockbridge where she specializes in state and local tax matters and tax controversy. She holds an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center, J.D. from the George Washington University Law School, and is an honors graduate of the University of Arizona. She has Chair-ed the District of Columbia Bar Association, State and Local Tax Committee and the American Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division: Tax Committee.

Sonya Watson

Ms. Watson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Nevada Reno, a Juris Doctor degree from the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law, and a Master of Laws in Taxation from the Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law. She is a native of Las Vegas, Nevada and has practiced in the areas of tax controversy, general liability, workers’ compensation, and Social Security disability. She is a law clerk at the United States Tax Court.

Linda Whitfield

Linda Whitfield serves as Associate Dean for Student Services at LMU Loyola Law School. A graduate of the University of Southern California and Loyola Law School, she practiced at the Los Angeles office of Perkins Coie LLP and then the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. A member of the California state bar, she will receive her Tax LLM from Loyola in May 2024. In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoys attending live music, and listening to her nascent vinyl record collection.
