About the Committee
The Fiduciary Income Tax Committee addresses various aspects of the tax law as it relates to Trusts and Estates. These include split-interest charitable trusts, unitrusts, fiduciary accounting, income in respect of a decedent, taxation of estate and trust income (both to the trust and its beneficiaries), asset protection, grantor trusts, fiduciary administration and income taxation of retirement plans.
We are committed to providing high quality continuing legal education programs to its members (to date, primarily at Committee Meetings and at Mini-Programs) on fiduciary income tax related topics. Our goal is to provide talks and panel discussions on particular substantive topics, new developments, and drafting points. While many topics are for experienced practitioners, we also try to address the educational needs of those new to the practice.
Another important role of the Committee is to provide comments and guidance on new developments in the law, always paying particular attention to doing so with sound tax policy objectives in mind.
Message from Leadership
Welcome to the Fiduciary Income Tax Committee's webpage. As many of you know, the Tax Section meets three times a year, generally in January or February, in May in Washington, DC, and then in August or September. Our committee meets on Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. For those of you unable to attend the meetings, each meeting is recorded and available for sale from the ABA. Also, the ABA Tax Section provides the materials from the meetings on the website available to members. We welcome your suggestions on topics on which you would find of interest at these meetings and we are always looking for individuals who would like to speak on topics relevant to fiduciary income tax and estate planning. If you are interested in speaking, please let us know. We also are happy to introduce you to other practitioners to speak on a panel at any of the meetings.
If you are interested in joining our committee, please send us your contact information and we will add you to our list. There also is a list-serv available on this page through which you can contact other members of the committee with your fiduciary income tax questions and ideas.
We look forward to another year of serving as your Committee Leaders and seeing you at a meeting soon.
