The ABA Tax Section’s Diversity in the Profession Committee (DIPC) seeks 5 – 10 volunteers to serve as committee members. The DIPC is responsible for the Section’s efforts to attract and retain diverse professionals in tax. Committee terms are for the duration of one year, beginning September 1, renewable twice for a total of three years.

DIPC members serve on one of four subcommittees during their terms:

  • Fellowships and Scholarships
  • DEI Programming and Publications
  • DEI Research and Policy
  • Liaisons/Ambassadors

DIPC members will report to the Vice-Chair DIPC, who serves under the Vice-Chair of Membership, Diversity, and Inclusion. Committee members will be appointed by the Vice-Chair DIPC, working with the committee’s Chair, out of the pool of applicants. Although being diverse is not a requirement to apply, individuals from historically underrepresented backgrounds are encouraged to submit an application.

Duties and Expectations:

  • Expect to dedicate 2 to 4 hours commitment each month
  • Be knowledgeable and supportive of the Section’s DEI plan
  • Be knowledgeable of the many facets and differences between justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion (JDEI)
  • Be knowledgeable of concepts such as biases (including implicit, invisibility, stereotyping, linguistic, cultural, cosmetic, selection, similarity), allyship, intersectionality, and microaggressions
  • Be comfortable in participating in often uncomfortable and in-depth discussions regarding JDEI
  • Maintain an ABA and Tax Section membership for the full duration of term

The application period for the 2024-2025 committee is now closed. Please check back in early spring 2025 for the next call for applications.
