The Tax Section is committed to its continued efforts to make the Section and tax bar a diverse, inclusive, and equitable environment.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Creating a diverse, inclusive, and equitable Tax Section and tax bar.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Plan
Updated in 2023, the plan ensures DEI is ingrained into all aspects of the Section and in all levels, from membership to committee work to our meetings. The Section strives to create a welcoming, safe space for all individuals. In conjunction with the ABA Diversity and Inclusion Center, the Section seeks to ensure that DEI is at the forefront of all that we do.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Meeting Scholarships
The Section proudly offers DEI meeting scholarships for our three Section meetings: Midyear, May, and Fall. Scholarships cover airfare, hotel, and registration costs and are open to both members and non-members. The scholarship aims to remove barriers of entry to attend to our meetings for historically underrepresented individuals.
Diversity in the Profession Committee
The Diversity in the Profession Committee is responsible for the Section’s efforts to attract and retain diverse professionals in tax including how to ensure diverse voices are heard, investigating systemic barriers of entry into tax law, and investigating how the Section may break down these obstacles.
Diversity Committee
The primary goals of the Diversity Committee are: (1) To provide lawyers of color, women, LGBTQ+ lawyers, young lawyers, lawyers with disabilities, and lawyers from diverse backgrounds with opportunities to become involved in the Section (2) To present programs on diverse areas of tax.
Loretta Collins Argrett Fellowship
Named after the trailblazer, Loretta Collins Argrett, the Argrett Fellowship strives to infuse diverse individuals into the Section and tax bar. Fellows receive complimentary ABA and Tax Section membership, complimentary registration to Section meetings and CLE webinars, hotel and travel coverage for Section meetings, two dedicated mentors, and monthly introductory webinars to provide a background on the Section and membership.
Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Content
The Tax Section produces a collection of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion related content including articles, webinars and podcasts.
Tax Justice, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Fund
The Tax Justice, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (JDEI) Fund is a permanent endowment within the American Bar Association Fund for Justice and Education (FJE). Charitable donations to the ABA FJE are tax deductible within the limits of the law.
