The Tax Section’s Distinguished Service Award (DSA) was established in 1995 to underscore the Section's respect for and support of professionalism within the tax bar. The Distinguished Service Award Committee annually selects one Section member to receive the Distinguished Service Award for outstanding service to the profession.

Criteria and Selection Process

The DSA honors individuals with distinguished careers in tax law who have provided an aspirational standard for all tax lawyers to emulate.

Recipients must be tax lawyers, either living or deceased, who have demonstrated distinguished service in their careers. Service in the government and membership or involvement in the Tax Section are not required.

Each year the Distinguished Service Award Selection Committee, which consists of former Chairs of the Section, former recipients of the award, and several appointed at large members, meet to discuss and ultimately vote on potential candidates.

The award is presented at the Section’s May Tax Meeting plenary lunch.
