The Native American and Tribal Law Section of the ABA State and Local Government Section was pleased to participate in the recent Fall 2019 conference in St. Paul, Minnesota with an informative panel on “Doing Business with Indian Tribes.” The panel was moderated by Robert O. Saunooke, Esq. President of the National Native American Bar Association and included Katherine Kinsman, Esq. and Sara Van Norman, Esq. Both Sara and Katherine have an extensive and diverse background in working with Tribal governments on federal, state and local levels. The presentation covered general background on Tribal organizations, areas of law unique to Tribal governments and issue spotting for working with Tribal governments. The panel was insightful, informative, enlightening and well attended. There are plans for more intensive follow up presentations at future conferences.

State and Local Government Native American and Tribal Law Section at 2019 Fall Conference
In addition to participation in the Fall 2019 conference the Native American and Tribal Law Section is planning on holding telephone seminars every two months for the next year covering such diverse topics as Cannabis development on Reservations, voting rights and disenfranchisement, Missing and Murdered Indigenous woman on Reservations, and Cross Jurisdictional Agreements between State, County and Tribal Governments.
