The Section mourns the passing of the Honorable Judith Smith Kaye. Judge Kaye was the first woman appointed to the Court of Appeals of the State of New York and the first woman to serve as Chief Judge of the State of New York. Judge Kaye has a national reputation for both her innovative decisions and her reforms of the New York Unified Court System. In 2000, she was a recipient of the ABA’s Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award.
