It’s Fall and football season—the most wonderful time of the year! (Yes, even better than Christmas!) Those of you who know me know that I mean that with all my heart. This year, Fall not only brings my beloved football but also my chairmanship of this Section. Therefore, Fall 2015 is wonderful indeed!

Chair's Message
The Section of State and Local Government Law has so much to anticipate this 2015–2016 bar year, starting with the Fall Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky—the home of Muhammad Ali, the Kentucky Derby, and bourbon. This is the first meeting at which the Section will hold what I like to call a “Committee Convergence.” The Fall Meeting, in conjunction with the ABA Forum on Affordable Housing, tackles topics from social media to land use and everything in between, with an incredible group of knowledgeable speakers and the opportunity to connect and interact with them on a personal basis.
During the Midyear Meeting in San Diego, we will have our “Hot Topics in Diversity Law” panel, which will focus on the issues surrounding same sex marriage. We will bring you up-to-date on the hottest issues and their resolution since the Supreme Court’s landmark ruling legalizing same sex marriage in all 50 states.
The Section’s Spring Meeting will be hosted in conjunction with the Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity, the Section of Public Contract Law, and the National Bar Association, underscoring the Section’s commitment to diversity and relationship building. Even better, our Spring Meeting will be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico—the site of my very first Section meeting and a sort of “homecoming” for me.
As you can see, we will be very busy continuing to provide Section members with awesome programming that covers the wide range of topics that face government lawyers (those who work in-house with government agencies and those who work in private practice) while visiting wonderful locales with our best friends. I sure hope you’ll join us!!
