Mission
The Judicial Committee arose from the recognition of the key role Courts and judges play in our land use regulatory systems. Its membership includes active and retired judges who would like to share their perceptions of the judicial process as it affects land use matters. Members who litigate these kinds of cases also give their perspective from the other side of the bench. The Committee hopes to demystify the often torturous judicial process though webinars, articles and occasional live programs. In addition, the committee seeks to broadly attract state and tribal judges to expand discussion beyond land use to raise awareness on important topics of access to justice, and elimination of bias in the courtroom. Finally, recognizing the expanding role of alternative dispute resolution and that many judges retire to mediation, the committee seeks to educate members on this valuable tool.
