Regulatory Scheme: The Florida Rules of Professional Conduct prohibit as "potentially misleading" any claims of certification unless the certification was granted "under the Florida Certification Plan" or by a program "accredited by the American Bar Association or The Florida Bar" or by "another state bar if the state bar program grants certification on the basis of standards reasonably comparable to the standards of the Florida Certification Plan." Rule 4-7.14(a)(4). In addition to its own certification programs, The Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization and Education accredits national private certifying entities. Some national private certification programs sponsored by the American Board of Certification, the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys and the National Board of Trial Advocacy are accredited.
