Every May, the Administration for Community Living (ACL) develops a theme and activities to celebrate older people. This year’s theme, “Flip the Script on Aging,” seems apropos for 2025. As we contemplate the future of aging in America, older people no longer fit the stereotypes associated with aging.
Some older people are tackling bucket list items whether it is a cruise or traveling into outer space. While others are learning new forms of exercise such as pickle ball, Tai Chi or strength training. Others have embraced new hobbies such as painting, gardening and raising chickens.
Each member of the Senior Lawyers Division has a unique opportunity to flip the script in their life by exploring new areas of law without leaving their home and without taking an exam. The Division has many committees that are free and open to join.
Some of the SLD committees provide an opportunity for members to learn about an area of law they never practiced in such as: Alternative Dispute Resolution, Ethics and Professionalism, Guardianship, International Law, and Real Estate Law.
There are other committees that provide members with an opportunity to develop programs to assist attorneys as they transition in their careers such as: Financial Services and Retirement Planning, Wellbeing, Elder Law, Elder Justice, Judicial Outreach, and State and Local Government Attorneys.
