The ABA/AARP Checklist for My Family: A Guide to My History, Financial Plans, and Final Wishes, Second Edition, was written by Sally Balch Hurme. The author has focused her career on elder law and was recognized as an "Influencer on Aging" by Next Avenue, a PBS resource for seniors.

Hurme's credentials include numerous articles and books about aging, including her ABA/AARP Checklist series. She taught elder law at George Washington University for several years and is the instructor for a 10-hour course on Getting Your Legal House in Order that is available online from Wondrium, producer of The Great Courses Collection.

Ms. Hurme's most recent effort is an update of her best-selling book about organizing estates. The book was written for lawyers and non-lawyers. Attorneys can use the book to organize their own lives and to educate their clients. The book's eleven chapters provide practical advice about organizing personal finances, health, history, insurance, and property. The book also has forms for preserving personal information and family history.

Each chapter begins with a narrative discussion followed by action plans, checklists, and forms. The narrative provides useful insight into legal requirements for testators, administrators, and heirs. Each chapter has detailed forms to be completed with the reader's personal information. The appendix has a useful list of books and websites for further study.

Noteworthy features include a detailed table of contents and links to forms. Readers can use the table of contents to quickly find matters that interest them. The links can be used for downloading forms in Word or PDF so readers can easily complete them with their personal information.

Estate planning is a challenging process that has been well mapped in Hurme's Checklist for My Family. Hurme is the consummate coach on aging. Her book takes readers through the A to Z of estate planning from assets preservation to zipping obituaries. Buy this book for yourself and consider gifting it to family, friends and clients to help them organize their estates and personal information.
