“The Problem of Alzheimer’s” is a deep dive into the history, science, politics, finance, ethics, and social impact of what may well be the most expensive disease of our time. The author, Dr. Jason Karlawish, is a professor of medicine, medical ethics and health policy, and neurology at the University of Pennsylvania and Co-Director of the Penn Memory Center. He has spent much of the last 20 years providing care to persons with Alzheimer’s and participating in cutting-edge clinical trials. Dr. Karlawish also has deep ties to the American Bar Association. Jason contributed the ABA Commission on Law and Aging’s groundbreaking handbooks on capacity for lawyersjudges, and psychologists and on the Commission’s pioneering work on voting by persons with cognitive impairment. He is in his second cycle as a Commissioner on the ABA Commission on Law and Aging – the ABA’s interdisciplinary research and policy group on issues in law and aging.
