Elder Abuse Prevention Committee Report

Social isolation and loneliness increase an older adult’s risk of experiencing abuse, and are a growing health risk that demands intervention. A recent report from the National Academies of Sciences Engineering Medicine outlines the various adverse events associated with social isolation and  loneliness—including elder abuse—and discusses potential ways stakeholders can intervene.

The Elder Abuse Prevention Committee looks to educate the legal community on the problem of elder abuse and advocate for its victims. The committee efforts include preventing scams and financial exploitation. The group has compiled a list of resources in each state where elder abuse can be reported.
