April 30, 2019 PRO BONO

ABA Free Legal Answers

Richard Goodwin

Thanks to all who were able to join us in our CLE program How to Navigate Emeritus Pro Bono Practice Rules presented by Crista Gantz of the Virginia State Bar, David Godfrey of the ABA's Commission on Law and Aging, and Buck Lewis, the Chair of the ABA's Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service.

As a follow up to the webinar, I would like to remind you to consider a pro bono opportunity that is meaningful - and also quick, easy and convenient, called ABA Free Legal Answers.

ABA Free Legal Answers is a national virtual legal aid clinic allowing low-income individuals to pose civil legal questions to volunteer attorneys licensed in their state. The website provides brief individualized legal assistance to underserved populations and provides attorneys in search of short-term volunteer opportunities a way to do pro bono work that fits into their schedule. Significantly, it also provides legal malpractice insurance for the advice provided within the site. To date, over 67,000 questions have been submitted by income-eligible clients since launch and over 5,900 pro bono attorneys have registered to respond to civil legal questions on the site.

To register, please navigate to ABAFreeLegalAnswers.org, click on "Volunteer Attorney Registration" and choose your state. Get more information  here or email Tali Albukerk

Thanks for considering this, and for all that you do for the Senior Lawyers Division and for pro bono!
