It is a privilege to be asked to assume leadership of this Division and its distinguished members, many of whom I have worked with for so many years. One cannot do so without a keen awareness of the responsibility that one shares with fellow officers and Council and committee members. This is especially true when one has chaired another section or division, as I have, because that experience brings an awareness of the qualities of a thriving organization.
I wrote recently to our Council that our most important task by far is to reverse the decline in our membership. I have tasked our Membership Committee, led by past Division Chair Bruce Mann, with the formulation of a detailed action plan for membership recruitment and retention to be presented not later than November 1 to the Council for consideration and adoption. Should any Division member not presently active in our work wish to share his and her ideas about membership, I urge you to contact Bruce and me.
