State & Local Bar News: The Journey Toward Justice for All

By Carole K. Bellows

Editor’s Note: Cook County Circuit Judge Carole K. Bellows, who became the first woman president of a state bar association in 1977, delivered the following address to the Illinois State Bar Association 1960 Class of Distinguished Counselors on December 8, 2010. She  is a member of the ISBA Senior Lawyer Section and a former chair of the ABA Section of Individual Rights and Responsibilities.

What a privilege it is to be asked to speak for the class of 1960 at this 50th anniversary celebration. It is undisputed that our fathers and uncles are right- fully acknowledged as the greatest generation of the century for saving the free world from tyranny in the Second World War.
