My Volunteer Assignment in Ramallah

It was a hot July morning in 2012, and I was driving through the West Bank outside of Ramallah—a landscape of boxy concrete houses, dusty fields, and occasional cypress and olive trees—on my way to Tel Aviv, Israel, with a Palestinian lawyer named Mazen Qupty.
