Commentary on the Terminology of Healthcare Planning

As we of Experience magazine have published our elder law series, we have increasingly observed that doctors and lawyers often use healthcare planning terms differently. For lawyers, “advance directive” is the umbrella term for all healthcare planning instructions. DNR instructions (whether to attempt CPR) can be given in any advance directive, whether labeled “living will,” “healthcare power of attorney,” or something else.
