As a trademark litigator he successfully defended the American Bar Association in a trademark infringement case. He is also a Russian scholar who attended Leningrad State University in 1976, gave Russian-language presentations in 1994 on behalf of Rotary International at the first Russian Rotary Clubs, represented the Russian Federation in 2011-2012 as amicus curiae in theStolichnaya Vodka trademark litigation at the Second Circuit, and in 2012-2013 was lecturing at Russian universities when he received an invitation to give a presentation at the Russian Supreme Court on the America Invents Act, in commemoration of the newly created Russian Intellectual Property Court. In August 2013 his report was published in the inaugural edition of the Journal of the Russian Intellectual Property Court, www.sgrlaw.com/site/assets/files/3908/4.pdf, and in October 2013 he was the only American (and one of only four Westerners) appointed to the Court's 67-member advisory panel. All of the above led to his collaboration with the featured speaker at our November 18 presentation.
Vladislav Ugryumov, the featured speaker, is a partner in the Moscow office of Gowling WLG, specializing in patent litigation especially in the area of the life sciences. He is widely known as one of the top pharmaceutical lawyers in Russia. In 2017, Messrs.
