The SciTech Lawyer dedicates this issue to the memory of one of its co-issue editors, Carol Henderson, whom we lost this May.
A scientific evidence and law authority, Carol Henderson was a Distinguished Fellow and Past President of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. In February 2020, she was honored for a lifetime of service to the AAFS. She was a professor of law at Stetson University College of Law for more than 14 years and at Nova Southeastern University for more than 17 years.
Carol became a member of the ABA Science & Technology Law Section in 1985 and served in a variety of leadership roles, including as Co-Chair, Life and Physical Science Division; Council Member; Co-Chair, Future of Evidence Committee; Co-Chair of the Scientific Evidence Committee; Member, Membership and Diversity Committee; and Deputy Editor-in-Chief and most recently Senior Editor of The SciTech Lawyer magazine. She co-authored the Section’s 2013 Scientific Evidence Review.
Throughout her career, Carol made more than 300 presentations on scientific evidence and courtroom testimony across six continents. She has testified before Congress and appeared as a legal analyst in national media including NPR and the Wall Street Journal. She began her legal career as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Washington, D.C., and served with the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
She received her J.D. from George Washington University and her B.A. from the University of Florida. In her retirement from academia, Carol offered consulting services and workshops. Her leadership, warmth, and expertise will be remembered and missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
