Information Technology and the Fall of the American Republic

A number of long-term trends, many reflecting the emergence of new information and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, are undermining the social and political stability and fundamental institutions of Western democracies such as the United States. While some of the short-term challenges are being recognized and addressed, the long-term implications for democratic forms of government are neither recognized nor well understood.
