In a 2015 book, anti-sprawl activist Ben Ross wrote that “a school of libertarian urbanists has emerged, propounding a free-market case against sprawl.” Benjamin Ross, Dead End: Suburban Sprawl and the Rebirth of American Urbanism (2014). Market urbanism (in the words of the movement’s leading blog, at seeks to reconcile “classic liberal economics and ethics (market) with an appreciation of the urban way of life and its benefits to society (urbanism).”
