Evaluating the Immigration Court System

On May 4th, the ABA Commission on Immigration hosted a panel entitled "Evaluating the Immigration Court System: Balancing Efficiency and Due Process." Our panelists discussed how to go about fixing a broken immigration justice system that is plagued by backlog. Also addressed were issues such as underfunding, slow hiring processes for Immigration Judges, politicization of the immigration courts, increased detention as a means of deterrence, and much more.

When People Flee: Rule of Law and Forced Migration

The Commission organized one of nine panels presented at the ABA ROLI Conference, titled "Yearning to Breathe Free: Welcome to America?" on April 17, 2018. The panel addressed how the U.S. has responded to the regional violence and displacement stemming from the Northern Triangle in Central America, and the increased numbers of families, children, and others seeking U.S. protection.
