This session is designed for lawyers who wish to deepen their understanding of how to represent immigrant youth and assist them in obtaining legal status in the United States. Participants will learn about the following key areas:
- Representation of Immigrant Youth: Gain insight into the legal strategies and resources available to effectively represent immigrant youth, guiding them through the complex process of obtaining legal status.
- Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS): Learn the specific requirements and procedures related to Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), including the necessary predicate orders that must be obtained to complete the immigration process. This session will provide practical guidance on how to navigate this critical path to legal status for eligible minors.
- Opportunities for Involvement: Explore ways to engage in this important work within your state, including opportunities for pro bono work, collaborations with legal aid organizations, and how to get involved in advocacy efforts to support immigrant youth.
