Charles (Charlie) Brown formerly served as a Standing Committee on Election Law member and then as a “Special Advisor” to the Committee. He was then appointed as a liaison by the Senior Lawyers Division (SLD). He is a former SLD Council member and a current member the SLD’s diversity committee. Charlie is also SLD’s liaison to the Commission on Disability Rights, after completing a term as a Commission member in 2012. Before retiring in 2019, Charlie spent a decade practicing disability rights law with an emphasis on voting rights -- primarily representing the National Federation of the Blind. He began his legal career in the Solicitor’s Office at the U.S. Department of Labor, where be became Special Projects Council. In 1991 Charlie was appointed as the Designated Ethics Official for the National Science Foundation, serving there until 2007. Charlie received an AB degree from Harvard and a JD from Northwestern.
