Beverly Schulterbrandt

Beverly joined the Center in November 2021 as a senior attorney working with the Capacity Building Center for Courts. As a liaison for Court Improvement Programs, Beverly brings her expertise to support national and state projects focused on improving the quality of legal representation for parents, children, and child welfare agencies. Her areas of focus include judicial and attorney training, youth engagement, race equity, and legal community involvement in statewide child reform efforts.

Beverly comes to the Center from the Maryland Office of the Public Defender where she was a supervising attorney representing parents/legal guardians in child welfare cases. She received her JD from University of Maryland, Francis King Carey School of Law, and her BA from Wake Forest University. She began her career in child welfare representing children, which cemented her passion to work with families impacted by the child welfare system.

Beverly has dedicated more than 20 years to improving outcomes for her clients, their families, and communities throughout Maryland in dependency and delinquency matters. She has worked on several multidisciplinary court teams to improve the court process, including projects addressing mediated postadoption contact agreements, family drug courts, juvenile detention alternatives, and youth involved in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems.

Beverly came to the Center because of her desire to help the next generation of child welfare professionals achieve better outcomes for the families served by the child welfare system. Outside of work, she loves to travel and experience new places with her husband and twins, especially throughout the Caribbean.
