History & Governance
The Center is a grant-funded entity within the ABA Center for Public Interest Law based in Washington DC. The Center on Children and the Law is governed by the ABA Board of Governors, where the Center is represented by a Board Liaison.
In 2018, the ABA Commission on Youth at Risk became a part of the Center on Children and the Law. Every year the ABA President appoints 16 Commission members and 12 Advisory Committee members to the Commission. These individuals contribute a critical component of ABA member engagement to the Center on Children and the Law by elevating child and youth law topics in the legal profession as part of the larger Association. The Center also has liaisons to or from several other ABA entities, including the Young Lawyers Division, the Judicial Division, the Law Student Division, the Health Law Section, and the Family Law Section.
All policies issued by the Center on Children and the Law and the Commission on Youth at Risk must be approved by the ABA House of Delegates.
