Reardon v. Midland Cmty. Sch., 814 F.Supp.2d 754 (E.D. Mich. 2011). Summary judgment was granted in favor of school staff who counseled student who ultimately decided to leave her parents’ home at age 17. Though parents have a right to care and control of their children, actions of school staff in discussing alternatives with teen, giving limited financial support, and assisting her with forming a plan for exiting her parents’ home was not of a coercive nature to substantially intrude on parents’ due process right.
