Below are state-specific resources for parents who have had their children removed from their home. The resource identifies rights and sometimes responsibilities remaining with the parents while their child is out of their home but before termination of parental rights. Sometimes these rights are called “residual rights.” Different from due process rights, residual rights typically include topics such as education or medical decision making and religious affiliation determinations. They may also include permissions for haircuts and tattoos. Written to be parent friendly, we have worked with Annie E. Casey to develop resources for each state. If the resource for your state is not available yet, it is coming soon.
