As part of the ABA Center on Children and the Law's focus on family unity, we celebrate not just the families who have been able to reunify, but also the importance of preventing removals and separations whenever possible and keeping families intact through advocacy, supports and services. Celebrating family unification means honoring parents and their communities of support who fight tirelessly every day to keep their families intact.

We launched National Family Unification Month 2025 with a powerful and thought-provoking webinar grounded in this year’s theme: Communities Supporting Family Unification. The event honored the full continuum of family unity—from prevention through reunification to long-term healing—centering the voices of those most impacted by separation. As April Lee and Yalonda Houston from Philly Voice for Change moved beyond traditional reunification narratives, they explored how communities, natural supports, and culturally responsive practices played a critical role in keeping families whole from the start. Whether attendees were parents, caregivers, family members, legal professionals, policymakers, or community leaders, the webinar served as a call to action to reimagine support systems that prioritize dignity, compassion, and our collective responsibility to protect and uplift families.
