    This question yields different answers depending on what chair you occupy in the courtroom/legal profession. This conversation examines the various perspectives of ‘KINSHIP’ in our legal profession, and how those perspectives impact youth & families. Ultimately, the goal of this conversation is to arrive at a ‘collective’ answer to the original question; OR will the answer lead to more questions? Join Adrian McLemore in this thought-provoking conversation to find out.

    Racial Equity in Child Welfare Cases Track

    The conference featured a conference track on race equity issues in child welfare cases. The sessions brought together multidisciplinary professionals to address specific topics and share divergent views and expertise, respectfully challenge one another, and explore new solutions to support children, parents, and families.

    Indian Child Welfare Plenary

    From Indian Child Welfare to Indian Child Warfare: The Potential Implications of Haaland v. Brackeen

    Ms. Wenona Singel provides an overview of the petitions challenging the Indian Child Welfare Act in the Brackeen case, which received a grant of certiorari by the Supreme Court of the United States. The presentation will also address the potential ramifications for American Indians if the Act is ruled unconstitutional and the importance of upholding ICWA to ensure children maintain connections to their families, culture and community when they become involved in the child welfare system.
