The Law and Your Job

How Law Affects the Workplace

What about temporary workers?

They might be considered employees of the temp agency, but not of the company at which they are placed. This enables the business to cut down expenses for injuries, workers’ comp, and unemployment claims.

Temps, like independent contractors, are contingent workers, rather than employees. Jobs in these categories have grown faster than traditional full-time jobs in the past decade, and contingent workers now make up more than 25% of the workforce. The trend is not surprising. Experts estimate that contingent workers cost from 20 to 40% less than full-time workers.
