State and Local Civic and Legal Education, Outreach, and Engagement Community

Overview

The ABA Division for Public Education intends to begin building an online community of those professionals engaged in civic and legal education at the state and local levels, allowing the professionals to learn from one another, share best practices, and engage in field building.

Network Framework and Resources

Members of the network will have access to a Hive Bright Community (an online listserve, messaging network, and resource library) hosted by the ABA Division for Public Education. Members will also be invited to join a quarterly Zoom call to share best practices and learn about new/developing research and advocacy in civic education.

As the network grows, so to will the programming and resources in order to best serve the needs of the members and their communities.

How can this network help support you and your efforts?

  • Periodic email newsletter sharing information and resources
  • Lesson plans and other ready-to-use or adapt materials
  • Virtual meetings to talk with other community members
  • Virtual meetings that share practical and useful educational topics from practitioners
  • Webinars with civic education, law-related education, and public legal education thought leaders and researchers

  • Program partnerships with other community members
  • Working groups for specific topics within the community

Center on Bar Leadership’s Executive Order Community

This new virtual community will work in partnership with the ongoing work of the Center for Bar Leadership’s networking around the impact of executive orders and federal government policies as they impact bar associations and the legal professions; these two communities should be viewed as complimentary (but separate) efforts of the ABA.
