When Words Collide: Protecting National Security and the First Amendment

Tiffany Middleton and Mark Cohen

Program Overview

Since the Founding of our Nation, Courts and the legal system have grappled with the vexing question of how to balance national security with interests with free speech rights. In times of war and national emergency, when the nation’s security is most threated, the friction between these interests has been most evident. This program explores how the courts have attempted to find a balance when the values of free speech and national security collide.
