Practicing public contract law since 2017
Q: Briefly describe your practice in public contracting.
A: I work in the Strategic Partnership Agreements Group at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). I work to negotiate agreements with the public sector (e.g. universities), large and small businesses, and other federal agencies that would like to work with the national lab and make use of research and development resources of the Department of Energy. A large extent of my work involves working with the diverse array of researchers at ORNL to assist in their efforts to collaborate with federal and non-federal partners while maintaining the business and legal interest of the national lab.
Q: Why did you become a public contract lawyer/ professional?
A: As an intern in law school, I had the opportunity to complete an externship in the General Counsel Office of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). During the course of my internship, I enjoyed seeing the process of the legal department serving as a critical component in achieving the research objectives of project teams. After the externship, I knew that I wanted to work in the federal government landscape to assist project teams in achieving their goals.
Q: What do you enjoy most about being a member of the Public Contract Law (PCL) Section?
A: I have enjoyed the people! The members of the Public Contract Law Section are a special group of individuals that have been open and receptive to new people and new ways of thinking. I have enjoyed the opportunities whether in-person or virtual to expand my network and knowledge.
Q: What is the greatest benefit of your membership in the PCL Section?
A: The Procurement Lawyer. I enjoy the publication, as it gives me an opportunity to stay abreast of changes in the field.
Q: Please share a good/ favorite memory of Section participation, or how you look forward to participating in the future.
A: I enjoyed attending my first Federal Procurement Institute meeting in 2019. Specifically, I enjoyed the chance to go to dinner with other members that I just met. I learned about the practice of others, but I enjoyed getting to know who others were at their core. I learned about the passions of members for food, travel, and even home design!
Q: What do you do outside of work and ABA activities?
A: I love to cook and entertain. I enjoy trying new recipes, especially the recipes within the New York Times Cooking section.
