Of course, many older lawyers continue to demonstrate excellent practice skills, backed by a lifetime of experience and practical wisdom, up to the time when they are ready to wind down their law practice. Many such lawyers can continue to contribute as practitioners, in an area of greatest need, through pro bono (i.e., service to low-income clients) or other donated public service legal work.
Some state bar authorities maintain a special practice designation for lawyers otherwise retired but active in donating legal services to those in need.
