G.C. Murray II, Esq.

G.C. Murray II, Esq. (Florida State University College of Law, J.D. ‘12), is the recipient of the 2022 Rosner & Rosner Young Lawyers Professionalism Award from the American Bar Association Center for Professional Responsibility and ABA Young Lawyers Division.

G.C. was born in Key West, FL and was raised in Miami, FL. He attended Florida International University where he graduated cum laude through the University’s Honors College in 2008. He earned his Juris Doctor from The Florida State University College of Law where he was both a Mason Ladd Scholar and a Calvin Patterson Civil Rights Scholar. He was selected as an inaugural Fellow of the Florida Bar Leadership Academy. Attorney Murray’s commitment to the profession and professional responsibility began early. Mr. Murray has the distinction of being both the youngest person and first African-American appointed by the Florida Bar to serve on the its Code and Rules of Evidence Committee. He was the youngest President of the Tallahassee Barristers’ Association, which won Chapter of the Year during his tenure. He has also served on the Board of Directors for the Tallahassee Bar Association.  and was elected as the first African-American to represent the Florida Bar Young Lawyer Division as its Second Judicial Circuit Governor.

Mr. Murray has been previously recognized by the American Bar Association in 2016 as one if its “On the Rise” honorees which distinguishes the Top 40 under 40 lawyers in the profession. He has won separate awards for mentorship, leadership, commitment to diversity, and volunteerism. Most recently he was awarded the 2021 Lynn B. Futch Most Productive Young Lawyer by The Florida Bar Young Lawyers Division and the 2021 Young Floridian of the Year by former U.S. Senator Bob Graham’s Center for Public Service.

In addition to serving as Special Counsel to the Florida Justice Association, Mr. Murray is the CEO and Managing Partner of Association GC in Washington, D.C. where he focuses his practice on advising organizations such as trade associations and nonprofits.

Outside of the legal world, Mr. Murray is founder and CEO of Innovative Community Engagement Foundation, a nonprofit that uses unique approaches to inspire volunteers, many who are attorneys, to become more involved with community service. The organization is headquartered in Tallahassee and has chapters in Jacksonville, Miami, the Gulf Coast, Orlando, Washington, D.C., and Chicago.

The ABA is proud to present G.C. Murray II Esq. with the 2022 Rosner & Rosner Award for Young Lawyer Professionalism. The Award will be presented to Mr. Murray during the 2022 National Conference on Professional Responsibility in Baltimore, MD on June 2, 2022.
