Issues related to the unauthorized/unlicensed practice of law are complex and ever-evolving. While every U.S. jurisdiction has in place some form of UPL committee charged with addressing these issues, the structure, authority, and nature of issues encountered by these committees varies by jurisdiction. The issue is further complicated by unlicensed practice violations with federal implications, like notario fraud and the ever-increasing instances of loan modification scams and mortgage fraud. The UPL School offer a central forum for volunteer members of state and local bar UPL committees and commissions, and those charged with the prevention and prosecution of UPL violations to discuss current UPL challenges.
