Lawyer movement from one law firm to another has become almost routine, but the ethical implications of these moves have grown increasingly more remarkable. While associates often change firms several times before finding their professional “home,” the legal and ethical ramifications of these changes create a multitude of problems for those firms they join and those they leave behind. This panel will discuss issues such as proper notification to client and the firm, division of fees, maintenance and transfer of client files, both physical and digital, retaining liens and other various client file issues.
