Understanding Disabilities Creating Opportunities

February 3, 2000

Dear Mr. Simmons,

The UCP of Metropolitan Dallas, Inc. supports The Consumers Alliance in advocating for multi-disciplinary practices (MDPs).

In 1999 UCP Dallas, Inc. served over 7,000 persons with cerebral palsy and other disabilities and their families. The level of disability of the consumers we serve ranges from mild to very severe. However, one commonality among all of our consumers is their mobility impairment. Availability of one-stop shopping for their services greatly reduces their challenge in accessing services.

The partnering of legal and non-legal practitioners to enable more effective accessing of social services, case management, government benefits, and health services makes good sense and good business.

We strongly encourage the American Bar Association to make MDPs a normal part of doing business.
