Over the years, I have learned the importance of being curious during the intake process. My priority is to make sure that there is a good connection between the potential client and me. Clients are paying us for our advice and opinion; if there is no trust in the attorney-client relationship, the client is potentially wasting his or her time, energy and money. Developing the skills to access the potential success of this relationship is important.
A Good Match Is Important: Interview Your Client During the Initial Meeting
One way to do so is by being curious. It is very important to know what we, as attorneys, believe to be a good match with a client. We do not want to cross examine our client at the initial meeting, but we do want to ask questions that not only demonstrate our interest in them as a person, but to make sure that this is going to be a right match for us.
