Issues in Presentation for a Young Lawyer in Trial Practice

A new litigator's views on important early career lessons

Although all new lawyers have a steep learning curve ahead of them, new trial lawyers face some unique challenges. We’re in a practice premised at least in part on inspiring trust and confidence in others, but it’s hard to present yourself as confident in a job you’ve held for only a few months. We are not only new, we’re also young, and therein lie more challenges: There is a dissonance in advising someone on a complex nuance of the law when your dad still pays for your car insurance.
