Hepatitis C is a serious problem for American prisons, both because of the large number of prisoners infected, and the correctional system’s reluctance to treat prisoners with newly developed direct-acting antivirals. Prisoners should be encouraged by recent federal litigation resulting in two federal trial-court orders and three federal-court settlements.
