Legal Services Fundraising Training Program

The American Bar Association Section of Litigation is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for the 2020 Legal Services Fundraising Training Program. The Program is designed to offer intensive development training, at no cost, to staff responsible for, and Board members engaged in, fundraising at legal services organizations.

This training is available ONLY to those organizations that provide their services free of charge to clients. The program will be held in Washington, D.C., May 7-8, 2020.

Training Cost
The program is free to those who register in advance. A small stipend may be provided on an application basis, for select approved attendees from legal aid organizations, particularly those based outside the New York City area.

Eligibility
Legal aid organizations that have Development operations in place for at least one year may apply for a stipend to help defray out-of-pocket costs of attendance. Submission of a timely application is required. In order for the applicants to qualify, their sponsoring organization must issue a press release and add to their web page, or through social media, an announcement about their upcoming participation in the 2020 Legal Services Fundraising Training Program sponsored by the ABA Section of Litigation.

Stipends
Certain legal aid organizations will each receive a $500 stipend will be offered to defray transportation and lodging costs. Please indicate on your application whether you are requesting a stipend.

Limit
Approximately 8 legal services programs will be offered stipends; up to three staff members and one private attorney per program may attend the Legal Services Fundraising Training. Applications from organizations that are not requesting a stipend will also be considered, subject to program size availability.

Apply
All applications are due by February 14, 2020. Preference will be given to those programs where a private bar attorney commits to attend the training along with the Executive Director or Development Director responsible for fundraising.
