Mission

The MTL Committee is open to all members of the American Bar Association’s Section of Litigation and embraces the values and goals of creating an open and welcoming community of litigators regardless of their race, color, ethnicity, gender or gender identity, religion, age, disability or other protected characteristic. MTL is focused on eliminating the barriers to historically and currently underrepresented individuals in the practice of law and, importantly, welcomes all individuals including allies who share these value and focus.

The MTL Committee is committed to provide benefits of:

  • Monthly newsletters and publications providing advice and points on the practice
  • Special programs at in-person and virtual events
  • Opportunities to network and exchange information, ideas, and strategies for the practice

Whether you are looking to expand your social and professional network or elevate your profile and presence through publications and programs, please join us.

Message from the Chairs

Welcome to the MTL Committee! We are proud to serve as cochairs for the 2023–2024 MTL Committee and warmly welcome you to our Committee. We are a community of individuals with the common purpose of embracing all individuals within the legal community and creating a better, more accessible, and welcoming environment for litigators inside and outside of the court room. Through MTL, we hope to effectuate those goals by providing a platform for growing our community and expanding our substantive and professional knowledge.

We welcome and encourage all members to play an active role in our committee work—whether it is a practice pointer concerning the future of AI, how to deliver an effective opening statement, or finding allyship in the workplace.

We can’t wait to see what this new year holds and want to help you in supporting your professional advancement and sphere. Look forward to meeting you virtually at our monthly meeting or in person including at the Section Annual Conference.

Membership

If you are interested in more information about how to become an active member of MTL, please contact any of the chairs.

Newsletter

Our Committee aims to publish electronic newsletters throughout the bar year. Each newsletter will provide insightful information on litigation practice and/or business development, with articles from leading students, lawyers, judges, and academics.

If you are interested in submitting an article or a practice point for a future issue of our newsletter, please contact any of the chairs or Joy Tolliver.

Networking

A significant value-add that MTL offers to its members is our monthly meetings. During the monthly meetings, we learn about each other’s interests, discuss upcoming events, and brainstorm about future programing. If you are looking to connect with diverse professionals around the nation, then MTL provides an excellent platform to achieve this goal.
