New IOLTA Director in Washington, D.C.
Kirra L. Jarratt was appointed Executive Director of the District of Columbia Bar Foundation in January 2014. Prior to this position, she was with the American Bar Association Governmental Affairs Office, where she focused on a variety of issues, most notably the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act.
Ms. Jarratt was General Counsel and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Officer at the D.C. Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services and Assistant General Counsel to the D.C. Child and Family Services Agency. Additionally, Ms. Jarratt founded a private practice, where she represented parties in the abuse and neglect system. Prior to her practice, she served as Legislative Director for Congresswoman Eleanor Homes Norton, as well as Counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
She is a past president of the Greater Washington Area Chapter ("GWAC") (an affiliate chapter of the National Bar Association) and currently serves on the DC Bar Board of Governors, as well as President of the Women's Bar Association Foundation.
Ms. Jarratt has a BA from Harvard/Radcliffe College and a JD from the University of Michigan Law School.
