It was an eventful summer for the Section as it hosted several well-attended and important workshops, meetings, and programs.
The New Deans’ Workshop was held June 7-9 in Chicago and had over 20 new deans in attendance as they discussed important topics including budgeting, philanthropy, academic freedom, and diversity, equity, and inclusion, among others.
The Deans’ Workshop took place July 5-7 in Denver. With over 115 attendees, the deans gathered to discuss timely and relevant topics including law school admissions, chatbots, AI, and updates to the Standards and Rules. Breakout sessions allowed deans to discuss online learning, experiential learning, and summer programs.
Closely following was the Associate Deans Conference, held for the first time since 2019. The Conference was held July 11-13 in Chicago and over 100 associate deans gathered to network and discuss various topics such as AI, outcomes and assessments, understanding and navigating ADA accommodations, collaboration, crisis management, and speaker protests. Sessions were also held for new associate deans, and attendees enjoyed the “Day in the Life” sessions as always.
The Section also held its Annual Questionnaire Training on July 14th in Chicago with over 140 attendees and its Site Evaluation Workshop, also held in Chicago, took place August 25-26. Materials from the Site Evaluation Workshop can be found here.
The Section hosted a program on student debt during the ABA’s Annual Meeting on August 3rd in Denver. Council member Andrew Crane moderated the program and panelists included representatives from the ABA Young Lawyers Division (YLD), AccessLex, and SoFi as they discussed the YLD Debt Survey and Report, financing law school and loans, repayment, the payment pause, PSLF, loan consolidation, and refinancing, among other helpful topics.
The Section’s Annual Business Meeting was held on Friday, August 4th where it elected the slate of nominees for the 2023-2024 Council.
