From the Section Director: Section Spotlight – Section Welcomes New Staff Member, Kutak and Council Awards, and Upcoming Programs

Erin Winters
Section Director

Section Welcomes Daniel Becker, Director of Accreditation Administration

Dan Becker joined the Section in April as the Director of Accreditation Administration. Prior to joining the Section, he was Director of Programming for ABACLE. In that role, he oversaw a production team that created professional development and continuing legal education programs and products to provide ABA members, non-members, and the legal community at large with the quality education needed to establish and maintain high standards of practice, and to fulfill state bar requirements for CLE. Before starting with CLE, Dan worked for the ABA’s Rule of Law Initiative, Latin America and Caribbean Division, administering overseas programs of ABA/LALIC in Mexico and Ecuador. Dan started his career in education as a history professor after obtaining his PhD at the University of Maryland before switching his career focus to legal associations. After teaching as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Maryland and St. Mary’s and Washington Colleges in Maryland for a few years, he worked as a writer/editor for the DC Bar’s “Washington Lawyer” magazine and also wrote a monograph on judicial selection for the American Judicature Society.

Dan is a steady runner but has scaled down some with age (currently about 15 miles a week) and a believer in doing his own yard work and gardening. He and his girlfriend, Kristin, also split cooking duties weekly and don’t eat out a lot because they like each other’s home cooking. Dan is lucky to have a sister who is an attorney in Puerto Rico and a girlfriend with two siblings in Hawaii, so if you hear about frequent trips to tropical U.S. islands he can’t help it that visiting family is also a nice vacation.
